DISPOSABLE FORMWORK FOR VENTILATED
UNDER-FLOOR CAVITIES
The designer and works-master have transformed the basement of this house of character in the centre of Rabat
from a dark and humid secluded area into a bright, healthy and comfortable reception area.
8 & 16cm high Iglu` modules topped with 5cm concrete, where used to construct a ventilated subfloor. The elimination of humidity
from this basement was achieved by introducing air from the garden and naturally conveying it underneath the whole house, aerating
the ancient walls without damp proofing and letting the air be sucked up by the open vent of the pavement.
Penthouse Overlying Ivory & Co. - Show Room, Mdina Road, Attard. The natural situation of this building created a classic example of how a naturally ventilated roof should be. 20 cm IGLU` modules formed a high enough space of moving air to obstruct the heat of the sun to arrive to the concrete ceiling.
Perfect example of drainage of water table seeping through the sub-floor. 16 cm IGLU` modules were used, 2X20 ft refrigerated containers are situated upon this ventilated industrial slab.
8cm IGLU` modules were used for ventilating and draining a 950 m² basement furniture store.
The two photos below show the advanced stage of deterioration of the elastomer spray paint which occured in less than 12 months due to the rising damp from the sub-floor.
After the existing first 30cm of tiling and concrete were dug out, a leveling screed layer was applied. Then the services were passed underneath the IGLU` modules, these services included hot and cold water, drainage pipes, electricity and telephone lines.
The result of this ventilated floor at ground level is a remarkable cosy shopping area, with a difference of 5°C from its neighbouring ground floor.
20cm high IGLU` modules were used to construct an industrial floor, having total sub-floor ventilation and drainage, thus creating a humidity free floor.
12 cm high IGLU` modules used to create a steam barrier, which was connected to the, now absolete, pipe system to ventilate the freezer sub-floor.
Smina Poultry Factory - L/O Siggiewi, 20cm IGLU` modules were used to create a ventilated sub-floor of blast freezer at -40°C, having complete drainage of sub-floor condensate.
In an area where water is literally present all the year round, a perfectly humidity free flooring was created by 20cm high IGLU` modules.
